The Shire Premier League was established by the Sutherland Shire Football Association (SSFA) as a platform for junior players to progress to high-level competition within their local community. Gymea United proudly participates in both the Shire Premier League Women's (SPLW) and the Shire Premier League Men's (SPLM) competitions.
Gymea United's Shire Premier League Women's Team, known as Gymea United 1, is an exceptional blend of new players and experienced GUFC members. The team consists of players who have consistently demonstrated their skills at a minimum 'A' grade level or higher throughout their careers. This year, six new players have joined the returning squad from the 2022 season. While integrating these fresh faces into the team has presented challenges in terms of learning playing styles, positioning, and set pieces, it has also brought added depth and versatility. As the season progresses, and the players become more acquainted with each other's playing styles, this flexibility will undoubtedly prove to be an invaluable asset. The team comprises players from diverse professional backgrounds, including trainee pilots, teachers, nurses, architects, engineering students, professional dancers, and even national water polo representatives. Many of these players have forged strong bonds through playing together, competing against each other, or being friends outside of football.
Gymea United's Shire Premier League Men's Team boasts a strong squad of up to 36 players. The team competes in both the first-grade (PLM) and the reverse-grade (PLR) divisions. All matches take place at the same venue, with PLR matches preceding the PLM games. This premier league squad consists of a blend of seasoned senior players and talented young athletes who have progressed through Gymea United's dedicated player development program. Not only are the men's team highly skilled, but they also actively contribute to the community by assisting in the development of junior teams throughout the season. The premier league men's squad is expertly coached by two experienced mentors who possess a wealth of knowledge and a deep love for the beautiful game. Gymea United's SPL teams proudly play their matches at two home grounds, namely Kareela Oval and Gymea Bay Oval, transforming them into daunting arenas for visiting teams.
