Shinja-Kai Karate Woodside is a reputable martial arts school located in Woodside, South Australia. It was established in 1992 by Terry Warke, a 6th Dan martial artist who serves as the founder and senior instructor of the club. The principal instructors at Shinja-Kai Karate Woodside are Deidre Warke, a 4th Dan practitioner, and John White, a 4th Dan practitioner.
The karate school takes pride in offering a training environment that is family-oriented and friendly, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. The club believes in the importance of family training and encourages all members of the family to participate in the classes together. This not only allows for shared experiences but also provides younger members with positive role models to emulate in their training and behaviour.
Shinja-Kai Karate Woodside welcomes students from the age of 8 and above to join their classes. The training curriculum covers various aspects of karate, including basics such as punches, kicks, blocks, and stances. It also includes kata or forms, which are choreographed movements that incorporate the fundamental techniques. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in touch contact sparring at lower levels, gradually progressing to higher levels of contact as their skills develop.
Self-defence techniques against unarmed and armed aggressors, throws, rolls, breakfalls, joint locking, and choking techniques are also taught to ensure students have a well-rounded appreciation and knowledge of all aspects of karate.
Classes are held every Monday at Woodside Institute Hall from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Shinja-Kai Karate Woodside offers a free first lesson, allowing prospective students to experience the training firsthand before committing to any membership or training fees.
Speaking of fees, Shinja-Kai Karate Woodside has a fee structure designed to encourage families to train together. The training session fee is $15. 00 for the first night and $13. 00 for the second night in any given week.
For families who train together, the first two people pay $13. 00 each, and each additional family member training on the same night pays $10. 00. Annual membership fees are $50 per person or $80 for a family of two and $100 for a family of three or more.
