Shin-Gi-Tai Shotokan Karate Gravesend is a martial arts club located in the Gravesend area of Kent, New Zealand. The club is dedicated to teaching the traditional Japanese art of Shotokan Karate, which provides numerous physical and mental health benefits.
The club offers classes for students of all ages, making it an excellent choice for families looking to engage in a positive activity together. The ethos of the club is centred around the principles of spirit, technique, and body. It believes that good technique triumphs over pure strength, but the spirit is ultimately what dominates everything.
The club offers training at multiple locations throughout the week. On Mondays, practise sessions are held at Castle Hill Community Centre on Cherry Orchard Road in Ebbsfleet Valley, Swanscombe. The training sessions start at 6:00pm and run until 7:30pm, with a fee of 5 per hour.
On Tuesdays, the club trains at Guru Nanak Sports Centre on Khalsa Avenue, just off Trinity Road, in Gravesend. The practise sessions take place from 7:00pm until 8:30pm. It's worth noting that younger students and those below brown belt level finish at 8:00pm. The cost for Tuesday sessions is also 5 per hour.
For advanced students, there is a special training session held on Fridays at Northfleet School For Girls, located on Hall Road in Northfleet, Gravesend. This session runs from 7:30pm to 9:00pm and is exclusively for purple belts and above.
One of the key focuses of Shin-Gi-Tai Shotokan Karate Gravesend is to combat bullying in schools. They recognise that bullying is a sad reality in today's society and can have a significant impact on children. Karate provides individuals with the skills and discipline to handle difficult situations without resorting to violence. Through teaching respect for oneself and others, the club aims to foster a well-balanced and confident future for all its students.
Self-defence is another essential aspect of the training offered at the club. They understand that there are times when a persuasive voice alone may not be sufficient in resolving a heated situation. Therefore, developing the ability to protect oneself can make a remarkable difference between being a victim or walking away unscathed. Karate empowers individuals to tap into their inner strength and build confidence to say “NO” to danger.
Shin-Gi-Tai Shotokan Karate Gravesend is proud to have The Echo Public House as a valued sponsor.
