James Waters & Five Elements Shaolin Martial Arts Academy is a well-established martial arts and holistic health centre located in Swansea, UK. Founded by James Waters, who has extensive experience as a martial artist and holistic therapist, the academy offers a variety of classes and services aimed at promoting physical health and spiritual development.
James’s journey in martial arts began 25 years ago with Gu Fu, a Korean family-style martial art. Over the years, he expanded his expertise to include Aikido, Wing Chun, Karate, and Kickboxing. Seeking deeper knowledge, he travelled to China to study Shaolin Kung Fu with 33rd Generation Shaolin Monk Shifu Shao MingLin, and advanced Tai Chi Plum Blossom and Praying Mantis Kung Fu with Masters Shifu Xu and Shifu Qu.
In 2012, James founded W Yng Qun School Of Kung Fu to provide traditional martial arts training. Fast forward to 2022, he launched Five Elements Shaolin Martial Arts Academy, combining physical training with moral teachings from the Shaolin Temple. The academy offers Kung Fu classes for adults, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong Meditation classes, alongside workshops and retreats.
Alongside martial arts, James values holistic healing. During his time in China, Shifu Qu, a Kung Fu Master and Doctor of Chinese Medicine, taught him that good martial artists should also be healers. This inspired James to delve into traditional medicines, focusing on Taoist principles that view the body as a whole. He is a qualified Holistic Therapist, offering therapies such as reflexology, massage, and holistic health sessions.
In 2019, James met Shaman Jessica Vilches, who introduced him to Ayurvedic health practices and Shamanic Breathwork. Building on this, he now offers private and group Shamanic Breathwork ceremonies for trauma release and spiritual exploration.
In 2016, James formed The Energy Collective, a group of energy and body workers who attend festivals and music events across the UK and Europe. They offer a mobile healing space, workshops, and talks.
In 2022, he introduced Five Elements Events, blending the tranquillity of a healing retreat with the energy of a music festival, providing a unique experience for attendees.
James and his team are dedicated to sharing their knowledge and life lessons. They aim to create a supportive community where individuals can train with dedication, fostering personal growth on all levels.
