Sherry Fields, located within Harewood Centennial Park in Nanaimo, is a popular community park that offers a range of athletic facilities and recreational opportunities. The park features an inclusive playground area with accessible swings, an “Orbit” merry-go-round, and a rubberized surface area that was added in 2022.
In addition to the playground, Sherry Fields boasts hard surface courts, both covered and uncovered, a mountain bike park, a water park, and a youth park for skateboarding. The park is situated next to John Barsby Community School, making it a convenient location for families and students to enjoy outdoor activities.
A major park update project has been underway at Sherry Fields, with various enhancements being made over the years. The first phase of the plan was completed in 2015, which included new playground equipment, a beginner mountain bike area, additional parkland, and utility upgrades. In 2017, a lacrosse box and covered space were added, replacing a tennis court and upgrading an existing lacrosse box.
One of the highlights of Sherry Fields is the Youth Park, a skateboard park that officially opened to the public in July 2020. The skate park features two main Street Style Plaza areas with a variety of facilities, including ramps, rails, and ledges. The park also includes integrated public art created by local First Nation artists, adding a cultural element to the recreational space.
Visitors to Sherry Fields can enjoy a range of activities, from playing on the playground to skateboarding in the Youth Park. The park is wheelchair accessible and offers something for everyone, making it a popular destination for families, athletes, and community members in Nanaimo.
