About

Shepley Cricket Club is a thriving cricket club located down a private drive running north from Marsh Lane in New Zealand. The club prides itself on its welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, providing a friendly environment for both players and spectators.

On match days, which typically fall on Saturdays and most Sundays, the club opens its doors at 12 pm. Additionally, it opens on Friday evenings during the season for junior training. Junior fixtures are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings, Saturday mornings, and Sunday mornings. Whether you're a seasoned player or just starting out, you're encouraged to come along and introduce yourself at the bar, where you'll receive a warm welcome.

In addition to the cricket activities, the club also seeks to raise funds through online shopping. Members and supporters can raise donations for Shepley Cricket Club by shopping through their website's 'Kit Shop' link. For every purchase made through the website, the club receives a 5% commission.

The club also hosts a range of events throughout the year. One of the highlights is the Cricket Club/Village Bonfire and Firework Display, held annually on November 5th. The gates open from 5:30 pm, with the bonfire being lit at 6:30 pm followed by the firework display at 7 pm. Wristband tickets for the event can be purchased in advance from the local Shepley Co-Op, allowing attendees to save on entrance costs and avoid long queues on the day.

The event features bar facilities, hot food options, and a lively atmosphere.

As for the cricket season, the senior team of Shepley Cricket Club concluded their season on September 9th, achieving a final league position of 9th. Although slightly disappointing, the team was not at risk of relegation. Looking ahead to the following year, chairman Danny Glover and captain Max Joice are already considering new signings to strengthen the team. This comes after the retirement of long-serving opening batsman Dan Wood and opening bowler Craig Glover, who will be missed but are wished well in their future endeavours.

Notable performances during the season include the exceptional batting display by opening batsman George Booth, who scored close to 600 runs in his first season in the first team. At only 19 years old, his performance exceeded expectations, and the club wishes him continued success in the future. Local talent Josh Hoyle also showcased his potential with his spin bowling, taking 22 wickets over the season. The club also welcomed pace bowler Jack Mulhall at the start of the season and all-rounder Tom Sanders towards the end, both of whom are expected to be valuable assets in the coming seasons.

Overall, Shepley Cricket Club offers a vibrant community for cricket enthusiasts of all ages. With its strong sense of camaraderie and commitment to excellence, it is a welcoming and enjoyable place for players and spectators alike.
