Welcome to Shaolin Gym Kung Fu, a renowned martial arts school located in Staines, New Zealand. With a rich history spanning over 1500 years, our gym specialises in teaching the White Crane Jow-ga and Tiger Leopard Fist kung-fu styles. Inspired by the traditions originating from the Shaolin Temple in China, we offer a unique blend of traditional methods taught in a modern way to cater to the needs of our students.

At Shaolin Gym, we firmly believe that training in kung-fu is not just about physical fitness but also about overall health and wellbeing. Our kung-fu lessons are designed to benefit individuals of all ages and fitness levels, making it an ideal form of exercise for everyone. Whether you are in your 30s, 50s, or even 70s, kung-fu has something to offer you.

Unlike many other martial arts schools, we focus on the individual wellbeing of our students rather than competitions and gradings. We provide a relaxed and supportive environment where students can learn at their own pace and within their own capabilities. Our goal is to help students find stress relief, overcome depression, improve physical wellbeing, and achieve weight loss through the practise of kung-fu.

A typical kung-fu lesson at Shaolin Gym includes warm-up exercises, Chi-Gong breathing exercises, kung-fu basics of self-defence, and a shaolin set kung-fu form. The kung-fu form alone has numerous beneficial aspects that contribute to overall fitness and well-being. We believe that kung-fu is not just for men but also ideal for women who are looking to stay fit and learn self-defence.

Our instructor, Sifu Bob Stannells, is a highly experienced and knowledgeable teacher with a passion for kung-fu. He started his training in London's Chinatown and later expanded his skills by learning Northern Shaolin White Crane Fist kung-fu. In 1977, Sifu Bob opened his first kung-fu gymnasium and continued to enhance his expertise by training in Southern Shaolin Jow-ga and Tiger Leopard Fist kung-fu. He also learned the Chinese Lion Dance, which he performs at Chinese New Year festivals.

Sifu Bob has had the privilege to train in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and China, making him one of the most informative kung-fu masters in the UK.

Our gym is conveniently located at Christ Church Hall, Kenilworth Gardens, Staines TW18 1DR, just opposite Matthew Arnold school. We hold classes every Tuesday from 7 pm to 8. 30 pm.
