Shaolin Cultural Centre of Canada (SCCC) in Scarborough is a non-profit organization established in 2007 by Venerable Yan Chong, Chief Coach of Shaolin Kung Fu and appointed by the Abbot Shi Yong Xin, the Chief Master of Song Mountain Shaolin Temple in China. It is the only authentic Shaolin cultural centre in Toronto, Canada. The main goals of SCCC include promoting better health, martial arts ethics, obedience, and the practice of Mahayana Buddhism doctrines and propagation of the spirit of compassion.
The centre aims to advocate the profound culture of Shaolin, Chan (Zen) Buddhism, and the purification of the mind. It strives to enhance understanding amongst nations and peoples, promote cultural exchange between East and West, and pray for a peaceful world. Master Yan Chong, who was given the religious name by Abbot Shi Yong Xin, has been actively involved in promoting Shaolin martial arts and Chan Buddhism worldwide through cultural exchanges, demonstrations, and teachings. He has traveled to over thirty countries including the U.
S. , Germany, Canada, New Zealand, Canada, and more.
Master Yan Chong has won first place in various Provincial competitions, served as head judge at National Martial Arts competitions, and is proficient in various Shaolin martial forms and weapons. He teaches Shaolin focused health exercise, Chi Kung, and various other styles of Shaolin martial practice. The centre aims to share the broad and profound Shaolin culture in Canada, bringing happiness, good fortune, and peace to the people. The practice of Zen (Chan) Buddhism, rooted in Shaolin tradition, is also integrated into the teachings at SCCC, following the lineage of the patriarchs of the Zen sect.
With a focus on promoting cultural exchange, understanding, and peace, Shaolin Cultural Centre of Canada is dedicated to preserving and spreading the rich heritage of Shaolin culture, martial arts, and Chan Buddhism in Scarborough and beyond.
