What is Senshikai Karate?
At Senshikai Karate, we teach a traditional form of Japanese Karate. Karate is a martial art based on the principles of self-defence and self-improvement that developed in Okinawa, Japan. Translated originally as Chinese hand, karate draws influences from Chinese kung fu. In the modern era, karate is translated to mean empty hand, describing the discipline's focus on unarmed combat techniques.
Our philosophy at Senshikai Karate is to promote both self-defence and self-development inside and outside the dojo. Our classes aim to develop fitness, co-ordination, concentration, self-confidence, discipline, and respect. Additionally, training in a martial art helps develop focus in all aspects of life.
We are friendly, patient, and dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive training environment for all our students. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced martial artist, we provide a safe and nurturing space for you to grow and learn.
Our classes are led by Daniel Barclay, an experienced martial artist with over 15 years of experience. Daniel has attained black belt qualifications in several styles of karate, including 4th Dan in Shotokan, 2nd Dan in Goju-Ryu, and 2nd Dan in Shorin-Ryu. He has also trained in various other martial arts disciplines.
In addition to his extensive training, Daniel has been involved in coaching since 2010, working with diverse age groups ranging from 4 years old to adults. He is skilled at tailoring classes to suit the needs of individual students within mixed-ability groups. Daniel has been one of the karate coaches at the University of Bath since 2012, where the team has won many national and regional championships under his guidance.
Daniel's polite, patient, and helpful nature, combined with his passion for karate, make him a dedicated instructor who is committed to passing on his knowledge to his students.
Assisting Daniel in teaching is Yuvika Rampal-Barclay. Yuvika is a 2nd Dan in Shorin-Ryu karate and has been training in karate for the past 6 and a half years. She has primarily trained at the University of Bath under the instruction of various senior instructors, including Daniel. Yuvika's training encompasses many styles of karate, with a particular focus on Shotokan.
During her time at the University of Bath Karate Club, Yuvika has provided valuable assistance to Daniel, helping junior students prepare for competitions and gradings. She possesses a broad range of knowledge across the spectrum of karate, with a specific emphasis on kata, self-defence, and goshin jitsu. Yuvika has also competed in many regional and national competitions, garnering numerous medals over the years.
Yuvika's friendly, caring, and compassionate nature, coupled with her dedication to helping and supporting others, make her an invaluable asset to the Senshikai Karate Club.
