Started in the late 1980s by Kyoshi Mike Knight, Seido Karate Dover has a rich history. Knight, a 5th Dan, received support and guidance from Sei Shihan Roger Thyer-Jones, the Seido UK Chairman. Thyer-Jones initially began training with Seido Karate while residing in Jamaica. After promoting to Shodan in New York under the guidance of Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura, Thyer-Jones was given permission to establish Seido Karate in the UK.
After facing various challenges and relocating to different venues, Knight handed the leadership of Seido Karate Dover to his long-time student, Kyoshi Jon Yorke, who began training at the school in 1989. The Dover Dojo is now situated at St Edmund's Catholic School in Dover, providing a fantastic venue for training.
Seido Karate Dover boasts a team of skilled and experienced instructors. Kyoshi Jon, a 5th Dan, is one of the instructors, along with Sensei Nigel, a 4th Dan, and Senpai John, a 3rd Dan. These instructors bring their expertise and passion for karate to each class, ensuring students receive quality training.
Seido Karate Dover is proud of its accomplishments, as showcased on their blog. In one instance, students from Seido Karate Dover and Fulham joined forces for a traditional Japanese class known as Kagami Biraki, even braving the freezing temperatures of the English Channel. Additionally, the school participated in the Seido Karate UK Tournament in 2017, highlighting their commitment to excellence in competition.
Overall, Seido Karate Dover is a martial arts school dedicated to providing students with a well-rounded karate experience. Through their training, individuals can develop their physical abilities, foster strong moral character, and make meaningful contributions to their families, workplaces, and society as a whole.
