SEDA Academy of Arts is a dance school located in Kingswinford, New Zealand. Known affectionately as SEDA by its dance family, the academy offers a wide range of dance classes to cater to dancers of all ages and skill levels. Some of the genres they specialise in include street dance, contemporary, freestyle, lyrical, acro and technique, ballet, and musical theatre dance and drama. Private lessons are also available.
SEDA Academy of Arts is an inclusive dance school that welcomes dancers from Kingswinford and the surrounding areas such as Wall Heath, Wordsley, Pensnett, and Brierley Hill. They not only provide training in their studio but also offer the option to book parties and private lessons at the convenience of your own location. The academy's main aim is to provide dance classes that help dancers become versatile performers, while also promoting a healthy lifestyle and body awareness. They encourage their dancers to be confident individuals and foster kindness to support others, emphasising the importance of teamwork.
One of the things that sets SEDA Academy of Arts apart from other dance schools in the area is that they do not require children to take exams or be the top performer in their field. While they do offer support to dancers who wish to pursue dance exams, their focus is on creating a fully inclusive and healthy environment for dancing. They believe in allowing each child to progress at their own individual learning ability, eliminating any unnecessary stress.
The academy prides itself on its talented staff, helpful team members, and supportive volunteers. Principal Sophie Walters brings over twenty-five years of dance experience to the academy. She has been trained in styles ranging from classical ballet to hip hop and contemporary. She was a Freestyle Champion at the age of 12, and later achieved triple distinctions in performing arts from The Royal Wolverhampton School and Thomas Telford.
Furthermore, she holds a Bachelor's Degree in Dance from the University of Roehampton, London, where she received training in physical movement, biomechanics, and injury prevention.
The academy also boasts a dedicated team of coaches. Martyn Davies, a distinction graduate in performing arts, has an impressive resume that includes being a West End dancer, an events manager, and a leading director and choreographer at Pontins and Haven Holiday Parks. He has also secured multiple contracts with cruise lines such as Costa Cruises and Queen Mary 2 Cunard. Hannah Stevens, another member of the coaching team, has been studying dance and performing arts for 17 years.
She has trained in various genres and has received numerous awards and titles, including World Champion and Welsh Champion in freestyle and lyrical dance.
SEDA Academy of Arts prides itself on providing a safe haven for children to have fun while learning to dance. It is also a place where children can make new friends and grow in confidence. With their dedication, expertise, and passion, the academy aims to nurture each dancer's potential and create a supportive community.
