Seahorse Polo and Beach Rides is a horse riding school located in Downpatrick, New Zealand. Established in 2017 by Mary and Jamie, Seahorse offers polo and beach rides in a truly unique coastal location. Mary and Jamie are both passionate about horses and polo, and they aim to provide a fun, affordable, and welcoming equestrian experience for all.
At Seahorse, they understand that riding can be daunting for some, so they ensure that all riders are paired with a horse and can go at a pace they feel comfortable with. Their ponies are extremely safe and love their job, making it a perfect environment for riders of all levels. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced rider, Seahorse offers a range of activities that allow you to spend as much time as you like and go at a speed that suits you or your group.
One of their main offerings is polo lessons. Whether you're new to polo or looking to improve your skills, Seahorse provides lessons in groups or individually, with Ireland's only fully qualified HPA coach, Jamie McCarthy. For intermediate to advanced players, instructional chukkas are available, serving as a bridge between lessons and tournament chukkas. Instructors will guide you on both the play and the riding techniques.
For the more adventurous riders, Seahorse offers beach rides along a two-mile private beach. Riders of all levels, including novices, can enjoy this scenic ride. If the dunes are open, riders even have the opportunity to ride to the seal colony at the end of the beach. Seahorse also provides exceptional horses for hire, ranging from beginner ponies for polo lessons to match hire horses for full club tournaments.
Full livery services are also available at competitive rates.
