Scoonie Golf Club

Scoonie Golf Club, located in Leven, is a prestigious golfing destination with a rich history dating back to 1891. Originally established to cater to the wives of the members who played at Leven Links Golf Course, the club acquired a piece of land adjacent to the Scoonie burn and developed a nine-hole course called Leven Ladies. Over the years, the course was expanded to twelve holes and later to fifteen holes.

In April 1932, the Leven Town Council took over the course and transformed it into a municipal golf course open to all players. However, the desire to have a dedicated club led to the formation of Scoonie Golf Club in 1951. The adult male members of the course held a meeting in March 1952 to formalise the club, appoint officials, and establish a committee to run the club. The club then joined the Scottish Golf Union to ensure members could acquire official handicaps and play on other courses with handicap requirements.

In 1936, an additional 67. 5 acres of land on the high ground to the southeast of the town were acquired, and renowned golf course architect James Braid, a native of Earlsferry, was enlisted to design the new course. On May 1, 1937, the new course, measuring 5310 yards, was opened by the Provost, commencing a new chapter for Scoonie Golf Club.

The club continued to operate separate ladies and men's clubs until 1963/4 when the ladies left the course, and the men took over the small clubhouse previously utilised by the ladies. In 1982, the Kirkcaldy District Council demolished the old clubhouse and constructed new locker rooms, toilets, showers, and a Starter's office. The club later financed the addition of a lounge, bar, and kitchen in 1985, further enhancing the facilities available to members.
