School of Dance Mortlake is a renowned dance school located in Mortlake, London. The school was founded in 1980 by Diane Vere, a former dancer with the Royal Ballet Company, under the name of Classical Ballet for Children. In 2009, Maria Jell-Shah, a teacher at the school, took over as principal and changed the name to its current one. In January 2015, Julia Timmons, a former professional ballet dancer, became the new principal of the school.
Julia Timmons, the principal, has an impressive background in dance. She trained at Bush Davies in East Grinstead and danced professionally as a classical ballet dancer for eighteen years in Germany. She performed with the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, Stadtstheater Lbeck, and Theatre des Westens in Berlin. Some of the ballets she danced in include The Nutcracker, Rite of Spring, The Tale of the Stone Flower, Joan von Zarissa, and Gayane.
She also worked in musical theatre, performing in productions such as Cabaret, Chicago, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Julia has been teaching students of all ages for the past twenty-five years, and many of her students have gone on to vocational education in prestigious institutions in Germany and the UK.
Alexander Simpkins is another esteemed member of the teaching staff at School of Dance Mortlake. He trained with renowned ballet instructors and danced with ballet companies in Austria and Spain, as well as soloist roles in Germany. He has an extensive repertoire, including classical ballets and contemporary creations. Alexander currently teaches at various locations in London and Sussex, including notable institutions such as London Studio Centre and RAD Dance School.
Emily Hufton is a teacher specialising in classical ballet and contemporary dance. She began her training at The Royal Ballet School and then continued at Elmhurst School for Dance. Emily brings her expertise and passion to her teaching at School of Dance Mortlake, helping students explore both traditional and modern forms of dance.
