Scarborough Universal Taekwondo invites you to an exciting local taekwondo event taking place in Perth. With over 40 years of experience, this taekwondo club, known officially as Australian Universal Tae Kwon Do, has been a pillar in the community.
Founded by Master Ray Tan, 8th Dan, this club has a rich history with some original members still training alongside him today. The club's main goal is to provide affordable classes for everyone, with prices starting as low as $5.50 per class. They understand that flexibility is important, offering a payment system that allows you to pay per class or purchase a 10-visit pass that never expires.
Scarborough Universal Taekwondo takes great pride in being a member of the national body for taekwondo, Australian Taekwondo. Their instructors hold internationally recognised Kukkiwon certificates, ensuring top-notch training for all students.
While Scarborough Universal Taekwondo is a WTF club, their focus during sparring is more aligned with the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) style. Here, the emphasis lies on self-defence and fitness rather than Olympic-style sparring. However, the skills learned at this club have proven to be transferable. In fact, one of their students achieved their black belt and went on to become a state champion in a tournament club within just one year.
Classes are conducted with a mix of English terminology for accessibility, but students will also get a taste of the discipline's Korean roots, as some basic commands are given in Korean. Each class begins with the recitation of the club's motto, emphasising the importance of developing both the mind and the body, along with respecting instructors and fellow students, while embodying the true spirit of taekwondo.
Scarborough Universal Taekwondo strives to create a casual and enjoyable environment where members can train, grow, and have fun. Join us for this upcoming event and experience the excitement of taekwondo with a club that truly values its members.
