Joan, the organiser at Sawbridgeworth Bowling Club, would like to share a brief note about the club with the sports community:
Sawbridgeworth Bowling Club is a well-established club located in the lovely town of Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. Situated about 30 miles north of London, between Harlow Town and Bishop's Stortford, the club is easily accessible via the M11. Nestled in the “Town Fields” area, the grounds are shared with the Cricket Club and the Tennis Club.
Founded on July 11th, 1922, through a Declaration of Trust, the club is part of the Sawbridgeworth Sports Association. This association also includes the Football Club and the United Services Club, though they are in different parts of Sawbridgeworth. The Bowling Club itself spans six acres, acquired for £400 in the early 1920s from the Council allotment holders. The land was initially part of Sayesbury Manor's garden.
While the Bowling Club operates on its own, it remains tied to the Sawbridgeworth Sports Association, with quarterly meetings to discuss shared policies. The club thrives on a sense of community, teamwork, and camaraderie.
For visitors, there are car parking facilities next to the Bowling Club off Bell Street, although do note that East Herts Council parking fees apply from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Alternatively, free parking is available in the Town Fields car park at the end of Springhall Road.
Access to the club is straightforward, with a footpath leading between the Tennis Courts, passing the lower end of the cricket field, right to the Bowling Club’s rear entrance. The address is Sawbridgeworth Bowling Club, Town Fields, Bell Street, Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, CM21 9AN.
Joan invites everyone from beginners to seasoned pros to join the club. It offers various activities, tournaments, and social events to suit all levels. The club is led by President Bob Wright and Club Captain Ian Casey, who ensure a warm, supportive environment for all members.
