Welcome to Sanathana Natyalaya, the Mangalore center for classical dance, which has been a beacon of cultural heritage since 1984. Over three decades, this esteemed institution has passionately imparted the art of Bharathanatyam to countless students, deeply embedding Indian culture within them. Founded by the late N. K. Sundar Acharya, a notable musician, the legacy is now carried forward by Vidushi Sharadamari Shekar (Dance Guru) and her husband, Sri Chandrashekar K Shetty (Director).
Sanathana Natyalaya has expanded beyond the city to embrace rural areas such as Karkala, Moodbidri, Yadapadavu, Kaikamba, and Niddodi. This expansion ensures that children from rural backgrounds also have the opportunity to learn and appreciate this magnificent dance form. The experienced teachers, including Guru Sharada Mani Shekar and Vidushi Srilatha Nagaraj, guide students through various levels of certification, ensuring comprehensive training and growth.
The institution takes immense pride in its remarkable productions like "Punyalahari," "Sathyanapuratha Siri," and "Rashtra Devobhava," which have captivated audiences with their profound storytelling and exquisite choreography. These productions have graced numerous stages and have been applauded by art lovers far and wide. Sanathana Natyalaya's dedication to art and culture was recognized with the "Jilla Rajyotsava Award" in 2021, celebrating its invaluable contribution to promoting Bharathanatyam.
A distinguishing feature of Sanathana Natyalaya is its commitment to societal values. By offering free education in classical dance and academics to underprivileged children, along with providing them free boarding and lodging, the institution upholds the principles of simplicity, humility, and selfless service. This nurturing and inclusive environment ensures that every student receives not just an education, but also a sense of belonging and cultural pride.
