Samurai Olympic Judo Club, nestled in Swansea, is Wales' judo treasure, founded in 1957 by the legendary Alan Petherbridge. Alan’s judo journey began in 1946 in Berlin with the British Army. He quickly mastered the mats, snagging four Golds at the European Championships and even repping Great Britain at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
Fast forward to today, Samurai Judo Club is a training hub that’s churned out top-notch athletes, with two Olympians, multiple European Champs, and countless British Squad members and Welsh Champions under its belt. It's all about skill and values here – politeness, courage, respect, you name it.
Whether you’re a young judoka starting out or a seasoned pro, you can hit the mats at the Gwent Boxing Club. Junior sessions run from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm, and from 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm for seniors, every Tuesday and Thursday. Juniors pay just £4, and it's £5 for seniors. Thinking of giving judo a go? Samurai Club throws in a free taster session!
And hey, if you want to sport the club's kit, they’ve got you covered. Grab hoodies, joggers, t-shirts, and everything judo from their shop.
