Since 1979, the Salt Spring Island Karate Club, led by Chris Barclay, has been a hub for martial arts in the community. Partnered with Puckett's Noble House of Karate in Sidney, they blend traditional and modern techniques to teach proper Karate. Classes kick off at Salt Spring Elementary School Gym, with extras at Beaver Point Hall.
Their squad of seasoned instructors includes Leslie Barclay, Pat Byron, Owen Hargrove, and Randolph Parker. Each brings unique skills, making sure students get a well-rounded experience in Karate, Kobudo, Jiu Jitsu, and more.
Rooted in Shotokan style and flavoured with Puckett’s methods, the club follows a structured belt system. Students start at White Belt and work their way up to Black, attending regular classes and mastering specific katas to level up.
But it’s not just Karate on the menu. They offer Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, and Kobudo too. Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned fighter, Salt Spring Island Karate Club welcomes everyone to join the crew and strive for martial arts excellence. Time to gear up and get started!
