Athletics Centre and has been serving the Ryde community for over 60 years. The centre is committed to helping its members achieve their personal best and promoting fun, family, and fitness.
Ryde Athletics Centre offers a range of programmes and competitions for athletes of all ages. The Junior Club provides Saturday morning competition for Little Athletes ages 3-17 in the junior/Little A division, and 11 to Vets for older athletes. The Senior Club members, aged 11 and up, have the opportunity to compete in Athletics NSW events all over Sydney throughout the athletics season.
The centre is located at Dunbar Park on Sobraon Road in Marsfield, New South Wales. Dunbar Park is exclusively used for athletics, ensuring an excellent venue specifically designed for the sport. The park offers a variety of facilities, including an oval for warm-up sessions and various event areas.
The weekly programmes at Ryde Athletics Centre operate on a two-week cycle, allowing each age group to compete in their respective events at least once every two weeks. Saturday competitions usually start at 8:30 am, with a warm-up session at 8:15 am. However, there may be some variations in the start times for specific events and age groups, as outlined in the programme schedule.
Participation in all events is encouraged but not enforced, giving athletes the freedom to choose which events they wish to compete in. The centre prioritises safety and requests athletes to inform their Age Manager if they need to leave early. With enough helpers to keep events running smoothly, competition typically concludes before noon, allowing everyone to finish in a timely manner.
Ryde Athletics Centre also offers a wet weather programme for days when the track is usable, but the weather conditions are inclement and the number of athletes/helpers is small. This programme ensures that training and competition can continue even in less ideal weather.
For those interested in becoming officials, the centre provides opportunities to join the committee and contribute to the club's operations. Interested individuals can contact donna. Armstrong. rac@gmail.
com for more information about available committee positions for the upcoming season.
