Located at Falmer Road in Rottingdean, the club unfortunately has limited parking near the Bowling Ground. To alleviate this, car sharing is strongly encouraged. If necessary, there is limited parking available on Bazehill Road, just before the Bowling Green when coming from Woodingdean. Alternatively, parking may be possible on Dean Court Road, just before the Church in the one-way system.
To reach Rottingdean from Brighton, take the A259 eastward. From the north, the best route is to exit the A27 for Rottingdean and continue on the B2123 (Falmer Road) towards the coast. The club is conveniently located just before the fork in the road that leads into the village's one-way system around the pond.
Membership fees for 2023 are 130 for playing members and 10 for associate members.
The outdoor bowling season typically runs from April to the end of September or beginning of October, with play commencing each day at 10:00 am.
Club competitions for both ladies and men take place over a four-month period, culminating in Finals Day in late August or early September.
The club holds its Annual General Meeting in February, providing an opportunity for members to have a say in the club's direction.
The invitation day, which includes a full day of play and food provided by the club, is held on a to-be-announced date. Play usually starts at 9:30 am and concludes around 5:30 pm, with tea and coffee on arrival, lunch at midday, and a cream tea in the afternoon.
Throughout the year, Rottingdean Bowling Club hosts various social events, such as coffee mornings at Ovingdean Village Hall in March and November, the Kingsley Lee Trophy fundraiser, President's Day, Captains' Day, Ladies vs. Gentlemen matches, the Connie Parks Cup, the Michaelmas Cup, Fish and Chip Supper games, and an annual one-week Bowls Holiday in October to December.
The history of Rottingdean Bowling Club dates back to March 1934 when it was established on what was previously farmland and a caravan site. The club's pavilion, which is still in use today, was adapted from an ancient cowshed and features aged oak timbers believed to have once been part of ships. In its early days, the club had famous honorary members and was primarily made up of working men from the village. Over the years, the club has grown and evolved, becoming an integral part of the Rottingdean community.
