About
Attributed to Alex, the Rotorua Contract Bridge Club invites sports players to enjoy the game in Rotorua, New Zealand. With roots going back to 1955 and a membership of about 150, the club is a hub for bridge enthusiasts of all skill levels, from novices to grandmasters.
Conveniently set in Neil Hunt Park on Tarawera Road, near the Te Ngae roundabout, the club is easily accessible for both locals and visitors. Weekly sessions are held on Monday afternoons, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and Friday mornings. Visitors are welcome for all sessions except team competitions, and partnership stewards are there to ensure solo players find a game partner.
Most members play using the Acol system, with some favouring the Standard American system, bringing diversity to the table. For newcomers, the club offers year-round lessons to help everyone improve their bridge skills.
The club also hosts exciting events, like the popular Rotorua Christmas Tournament, ensuring that there’s always something to look forward to. Regular working bees see members come together to maintain the facilities, fostering a strong sense of community.
Founded by Mr Ib Thulin and Mr FR (Bobs) Cowper, the legacy of the club lives on through its vibrant and passionate membership. Alex hopes to see you there, ready to engage in a game of skill and strategy, making new friends and enjoying a welcoming environment.
