Rotary Park Lawn Bowls Club is a historic lawn bowling club located in Calgary, Alberta. Situated off Centre Street and 7th Avenue NE, the club boasts 2 greens that are in use throughout the bowling season. Members have the opportunity to participate in various social leagues and are encouraged to compete in formal Alberta competitions. The club provides all necessary equipment for its members and only requires them to wear appropriate attire for the weather and flat sole shoes to protect the greens.
The history of Rotary Park Lawn Bowls Club dates back to 1919 when the Prince of Wales broke ground for the construction of Memorial Hall, where the club is currently located. Originally named the Royal Canadian Legion No. 1 Branch Lawn Bowling Club, the club's green was positioned behind the Legion Hall. In 1956, the club moved to Rotary Park, constructing a clubhouse and green on the west side of the property.
The Army and Navy Club also moved to the same location, constructing a green on the east side of the Legion Club. The two clubs eventually merged, utilizing the same clubhouse for Sunday morning interclub matchups known as the "Outlaw League.
Incorporated on September 19, 1991, under the Societies Act of the Province of Alberta, the club has hosted numerous significant tournaments, including Canadian Championships, World Police Fire Games, Canadian Senior Triples Championships, Inter Provincial competitions, and Provincial competitions. Matches with teams from Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, and Edmonton have also taken place in the early days of the club.
After a period of redevelopment in 2008 led by the City, the club was without a clubhouse for three years. Construction on a new venue at the west side of the property began in 2010, and the club took possession of the building in June 2011. With a rich history and a strong presence in the Calgary community, Rotary Park Lawn Bowls Club continues to be a beloved destination for lawn bowling enthusiasts.
