Rookery Paddling Pool in Streatham Common, London, is a fantastic spot for swimmers, thanks to the community's hard work and the London Borough of Lambeth's funding. Though the pool couldn't be fully restored yet, it’s kept in top condition for a safe and fun experience.
Due to repairs and resource-saving this year, it hasn’t been painted. But don’t worry – the water is tested daily, and cleaning happens every Thursday and Sunday.
Open from 10 am to 6 pm (with a later start on cleaning days), it’s wise to check for any last-minute closures before heading out. Remember to follow the rules: no nappies, glass, or dogs in the pool area, no running, and respect others. Take your rubbish home to keep the space clean.
The reopening is thanks to community support and volunteers, alongside contributions from Kelly's Electrical. Depending on the weather, the pool might even stay open in September 2023.
SCCOOP faces challenges with funding and safety but is committed to opening the pool for the School Summer Holidays. A crowd funder will kick off for donations, welcoming larger contributions to cut down on admin fees.
Working alongside Lambeth Council, SCCOOP appreciates the community’s positive and respectful support. They’re currently stretched with staff and volunteers, but after the London in Bloom competition, they’ll hold a meeting about pool use, support, and funding.
To keep the pool running this summer, SCCOOP needs to raise over £20,000 for repairs, staffing, and ongoing services. Those keen to help with fundraising can contact SCCOOP.
Rookery Paddling Pool offers a refreshing and enjoyable swim in the beautiful Streatham Common, providing a safe and welcoming space for the community to make lasting memories.
