At Verulam Angling Club, situated on the River Great Ouse in Milton Ernest, Bedford, members can enjoy a fantastic fishing experience. Access to the fishery is through a locked gate right opposite Bedfordia Estate's entrance, and a short walk from the parking area will get you to the river.
The fishery offers everything from shallow runs to deeper glides, with plenty of streamer weed and overhanging trees along the far bank—the perfect spots for catching Chub, Dace, and Barbel. Night fishing is also allowed, particularly useful if you're aiming for the larger Barbel.
Keep an eye out for Otters during the early morning or late evening; they’re a common and delightful sight. Even if you’re mixed about them, spotting these creatures is always special.
Verulam Angling Club doesn’t just stop at fishing. They organise a full calendar of matches and host charity events, a championship series, and a fun summer evening league. Every member takes part in one working party each year, helping keep the fisheries in top condition.
Young anglers are welcomed with open arms; there are reduced subscriptions and no entrance fee for juniors. Family members and non-fishing guests can also join in the fun, with most venues offering toilet facilities and some even providing tea and coffee facilities at Riverside Road.
Since its start in 1934, Verulam Angling Club has grown to over 2000 members, offering diverse fishing opportunities on rivers, lakes, gravel pits, canals, and even dedicated trout waters. Night fishing is available at no extra cost on selected venues.
As a limited company since 1986, Verulam Angling Club values communication with its members, ensuring everyone’s needs and interests are met. With a mix of fishing options, community activities, and stunning locations, this is the go-to club for anglers of all levels.
