Verulam Angling Club, championed by James, offers a prime fishing destination at River Lea - Marford Farm Fishery in beautiful St Albans, United Kingdom. Located just 5 miles north of town, this prime stretch of the River Lea lies near Wheathampstead village in Hertfordshire. Despite its proximity to London, anglers will be impressed by the rich fish population and tranquil setting.
Marford Farm offers two distinct sections: the short walk and the long walk. The short walk is packed with Barbel, Chub, Dace, Roach, and Perch, plus large river Carp. Anglers here can expect double-figure Barbel and Roach up to 3lb. Purpose-built swims along reed-lined banks ensure plenty of spots to cast lines.
On the other side of the car park, the long walk presents an untouched feel with twists, overhanging trees, deep pools, and shallow glides. This stretch hosts impressive Roach, Barbel, Chub, and Carp. Techniques from stick float and maggot to feeder all work well in this diverse environment. A mobile approach is ideal here.
Anglers are reminded to fish only from designated pegged swims and follow set fishing times. A toilet facility in the car park adds convenience.
James takes pride in the club's diverse fisheries, established in 1934 and now with over 2000 members. From rivers to lakes, gravel pits to canals, and dedicated fly-fishing waters, there's something for everyone, including night fishing at select venues.
Verulam Angling Club’s active match section hosts a range of events, including charity matches, championship series, and summer evening leagues. Managed by dedicated fishery managers and bailiffs, the fisheries thrive thanks to member participation in maintenance tasks, from litter-picking to groundworks, ensuring everyone can contribute according to their abilities.
James invites all anglers to join Verulam Angling Club and enjoy the exceptional fishing and picturesque surroundings of River Lea - Marford Farm Fishery.
