Riding For The Disabled – Hastings Group, based at the Joan Fernie Centre in Murdoch Road East, Hastings, is a horseback riding service that provides therapeutic riding opportunities to disabled and disadvantaged children in the Hawke's Bay area. Serving as a platform for training and rehabilitation, our dedicated team aims to enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our participants.
Participation in our programme offers a multitude of benefits for disabled children, fostering their personal growth and development. Not only do they gain valuable physical skills, but they also acquire transferable skills that can be applied to various aspects of their daily lives. The experience of riding and interacting with horses and ponies serves as a powerful motivator, instilling a sense of independence and assisting individuals in achieving their personal goals.
Riding activities take place throughout the school term, from Tuesday to Friday. In addition to our regular sessions, we offer the opportunity to hire our indoor arena outside our riding times, providing a versatile space for equestrian activities and events. This collaboration helps support our organisation's mission and enables us to continue providing our valuable services to the community.
