About
Richmond Hill has a fantastic outdoor skating rink known as the Richmond Green Skate Trail. The Skate Trail is open for the 2023-2024 season and is a popular winter destination in the area. Due to current weather conditions, the Skate Trail is now only open in the evenings from 6 pm to 10 pm.
Skaters can enjoy gliding through the trees on the 250-meter looped skate trail, which is illuminated with lights for evening skating. The Skate Trail is conveniently located at 1300 Elgin Mills Road East, right next to Tom Graham Arena. Admission to the Skate Trail is free and registration is not required. The hours of operation are from 10 am to 10 pm daily, weather permitting.
Skaters can cheque the hotline at 905-771-5490 for updated skate trail conditions.
In addition to the Skate Trail, skaters can also enjoy skating on the natural ice rinks at Mill Pond and Lake Wilcox in the winter, weather permitting. However, it is important to note that it is advised to stay off frozen lakes, rivers, ponds, and stormwater ponds as the ice may not be safe. Factors such as water flow, fluctuating water levels, and snow on the ice can contribute to unsafe conditions. Stormwater ponds, in particular, are designed to collect and release runoff and can be particularly dangerous to play on.
For safety tips on what to do if you find yourself in trouble on the ice or witness someone fall through the ice, visitors can visit the Canadian Red Cross website for more information. Richmond Green Skate Trail is a great winter destination for outdoor skating in Richmond Hill, offering a fun and safe environment for skaters of all ages to enjoy.
