The REME Sailing Club, located in Aldershot, is a sailing club catering to serving and retired members of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. The club offers a range of activities and training in three disciplines: dinghy sailing, windsurfing, and offshore sailing.
The main objective of the REME Sailing Club is to foster and develop sailing throughout the Corps. This is achieved by organising various activities such as training, racing, cruising, and other events. Members are encouraged to participate in sailing events at all levels, promoting a sense of camaraderie and competition within the club.
The club maintains high standards of proficiency in sailing skills, following the guidance of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). Members have access to a fleet of dinghies, windsurfing boards, and offshore yachts for their use during club activities or representative sailing events on behalf of the Corps.
Recently, the REME Sailing Club has made some changes to their email addresses and website. Their new internet domain is www. Remesailingclub. Com, and members are encouraged to use the updated email addresses listed on the Contacts page.
The Offshore Section of the REME Sailing Club focuses specifically on offshore sailing. The section aims to foster and develop offshore sailing within the Corps by organising training, racing, cruising, and other activities. Members are encouraged to participate in sailing events at all levels, ensuring the growth and proficiency of offshore sailing skills based on RYA standards.
The REME Sailing Club owns two medium-sized cruising yachts, Craftsman IlI and Seahorse VII, both Hallberg-Rassy 342s. These yachts are based in Hornet Services Sailing Club in Gosport and fully compliant with maritime regulations. They are available for instruction, training, or bareboat charter and can be used by members for unit sails or with friends and family. The club also collaborates with Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre (JSASTC) and other service clubs and organisations for the use of additional boats.
Training is a key focus for the REME Sailing Club. The Army Sailing Association, in collaboration with the club, offers RYA Offshore Training Courses throughout the year. The highlight of these courses is the Solent Sail Training Week, held in the early autumn, along with the club's End of Season Rally. During this event, members can obtain RYA Day Skipper and Competent Crew qualifications and progress towards RYA Yachtmaster Coastal and Offshore qualifications.
Dependants may also participate in this event, subject to availability.
Additionally, the REME Sailing Club offers a dedicated RYA Day Skipper and Competent Crew course each year for retired Corps members and their dependants. This course takes place using the Corps' own Hallberg-Rasseys and provides an opportunity for continued learning and skill development.
The REME Sailing Club is committed to providing its members with a welcoming and inclusive sailing experience. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn or an experienced sailor seeking to compete, the club offers a range of activities to suit every skill level. Join the REME Sailing Club and immerse yourself in the world of sailing in Aldershot.
