Woodend Hanging Rock Petanque Club Inc., a Petanque club in Macedon Ranges Shire, has some regular procedures and activities that all interested players should be aware of. Membership renewals take place in March of each year, and it is important for members to pay their subscriptions at this time. To participate in formal competitions, members must be fully licensed financial members of the PFA and be up-to-date with their financial obligations to WHRPC.
The club holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September, during which the committee for the upcoming year is elected. This meeting is also a celebratory dinner, providing a great opportunity for members to come together and enjoy the proceedings. Prior to the AGM, nomination forms and a Notice of Meeting are distributed, and any nominations for office should be submitted before the meeting. The committee consists of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, each serving a one-year term. Other members are co-opted onto the committee. The club encourages all members to consider joining the committee at some point, as this ensures the consideration of new ideas and fresh perspectives. The committee meets monthly, and if any member has something they would like to discuss, they can email the details to the Secretary for inclusion on the agenda of the next meeting.
All players must be licensed with the PFA, which provides insurance cover and grants entitlement to play at any affiliated club in Australia and worldwide. Licenses can be obtained online, but a hard copy license may also be provided in compliance with PFA rules, including a recent photograph, date of birth, and owner's signature.
Thursday nights are game nights at the Hanging Rock Reserve, starting from early October and continuing until late April, depending on weather conditions. Play begins at 5 pm, so it's advised to arrive at around 4:30 pm to allow time for pre-game organisation, socialising, and to give the treasurer an opportunity to collect the modest fee for the evening. For your convenience, a BBQ cooked by rostered members will be provided around 7 pm. Feel free to bring your own liquid refreshments and glassware to enjoy during the games.
Please note that play on Thursday nights is canceled on CODE RED DAYS (Total Fire Ban) as the Hanging Rock Reserve is automatically closed for safety reasons.
On Monday afternoons/evenings, the club plays at the Woodend Town Piste all year round, weather and statutory limitations permitting. These sessions are aimed at encouraging skills development, social competition, and most importantly, having fun! Normally, no refreshments or BBQ are provided for these occasions, and there are no set fees. However, the club suggests that members and guests playing on Mondays make a gold coin donation to help cover the costs of operating the Town Piste. Please be aware that this arrangement may be subject to periodic review and might change in the future as the venue becomes more popular and COVID restrictions are lifted.
Woodend Hanging Rock Petanque Club Inc. invites interested players to join them for these regular activities and encourages everyone to become a part of their thriving community.
