Ratae Road Club, based in Leicester, extends a warm welcome to all cyclists, as emphasised by its organiser, Alex. While the name suggests a focus on road cycling, the club's offerings go beyond that.
Weekly road rides are organised every Wednesday and Sunday mornings, with options for both fast and steady speed groups. For those who prefer off-road adventures, rides are scheduled for the first Sunday of each month, weather permitting.
Competitive cyclists are well catered for. Club time trials take place in the spring and summer, and there's an autumn hill climb. The club also participates in the Leics Cyclocross League. Details of these events are available on the club’s Events page, and members get regular updates through the WhatsApp group.
Safety is crucial at Ratae Road Club. Helmets are mandatory for all rides. As a sign of their dedication to the sport, the club is affiliated with British Cycling, CyclingUK, and Cycling Time Trials.
Alex and the team are always eager to welcome new members, both men and women, who are passionate about cycling. Regardless of whether you're into social rides or competitive events, you'll find a supportive community to help you improve. Potential members can join up to three club runs for free before deciding to become a member.
Founded in 1950 through the merger of cycling clubs from local engineering companies – British United Shoe Machinery Co and Mellor Bromley – Ratae Road Club celebrates its history with Founders' Day in July. This event features various rides ending at a local pub for drinks and lunch.
For more details about the club’s history, upcoming events, or membership information, visit their website or contact the club directly. Alex and the team look forward to welcoming you to the Ratae Road Club community.
