Ranger School of Dance was initially established in Greymouth and later re-established in Timaru in 1997 by Principal Jill Ranger. With over 35 years of teaching experience in dance, Jill holds an Associate Teaching Diploma level 2 with the British Ballet Organisation (BBO). The school is currently located at 99 Douglas Street, Town & Country Club Sport Pavilion.
The Ranger School of Dance offers a variety of dance classes for different age groups and levels. Classical Ballet is the foundation of all dance taught today and is the perfect place to start. The ballet technique trains every part of the body. The school also offers an Introduction to Dance class for 4-year-old children, which teaches basic movements and focuses on stretching, flexing feet, skipping, galloping, jumping, turning, and following instructions.
Contemporary Dance is a style that allows dancers to express themselves in a more personal and creative way. It is a great class for both ballet students and students with limited or no formal dance training. Urban Dance is a mix of modern dance styles, including jazz, hip hop, musical theatre, and contemporary. This class introduces students to different styles of dance and uses interesting and appropriate music for children.
The Ranger School of Dance provides BBO examination classes at all levels, from Pre-Primary to Advanced. The British Ballet Organisation is recognised and respected worldwide. Students from year two onwards are encouraged to sit examinations to have a goal to work towards and a sense of achievement.
The school prides itself on being warm and friendly, providing the right environment for students to flourish and become confident dancers. Co-ordination, flexibility, deportment, and confidence are just a few of the benefits of learning classical ballet. In addition to the regular classes, the school also organises various events and productions, such as the upcoming production of Cinderella Climbs Up The Beanstalk/Kaleidoscope.
At the Ranger School of Dance, they believe that dance is not just about learning fancy moves but about having fun, expressing oneself, and building self-confidence. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer, there is a class for you at Ranger School of Dance.
