Prevail MMA is a renowned martial arts club located in South Geelong, Victoria. Led by the esteemed head coach, John Brown, the club focuses on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). The club has garnered a strong reputation due to its exceptional training, clean and well-maintained facilities, and a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the main martial art taught at Prevail MMA, is a ground fighting and submission-based combat sport. Emphasising control and dominance over opponents, it involves various techniques such as joint locks and chokeholds to force opponents into submission. With a history spanning over two decades, John Brown has mastered the finer details of BJJ and is an Australian Elite Team 2nd Degree BJJ BlackBelt.
What sets Prevail MMA apart is not just its top-class instruction and coaching, but also its strong sense of community. The club encourages camaraderie and support amongst members. Trainees can enjoy small class sizes and a supportive learning environment, devoid of egos. Prevail MMA also organises a monthly Social Sunday event where participants can socialise, share food, and enjoy a good laugh together.
Membership to Prevail MMA is not open to all, ensuring the preservation of the club's outstanding culture and dedication to world-class BJJ. Potential members must undergo an application process, which includes an invitation to watch and train for a night. If both parties believe it could be a good fit, applicants are then invited to train free of charge for two weeks. After this period, full membership is discussed.
The club offers regular events and activities for its members. Social Sundays, held once a month, provide an opportunity for post-training bonding and enjoyment. Additionally, interclub gradings and competitions are held throughout the year as part of the Australian Elite Team community.
Prevail MMA prioritises inclusivity and offers a women-only jiu-jitsu class on Monday nights. Led by the club's two most senior female students, the class follows a structured syllabus suitable for beginners and hobbyists alike.
The club ensures flexibility for its members by not locking them into any contracts. If a membership doesn't work out, individuals can cancel at any time without any obligation.
The cost of training at Prevail MMA varies depending on the membership type. Casual training visits cost $30 per session, while adult monthly membership is priced at $140 per month. Teenagers aged 13-15 can avail themselves of the discounted rate of $100 per month. Private lessons are also available upon request.
Prevail MMA has received rave reviews from satisfied customers who express their admiration for Coach John Brown, the welcoming atmosphere, and the passion and knowledge shared with students.
