Experience the weight and balance of a real sword. It also allows for focused individual practise and self-reflection. Iaido emphasises the importance of perfecting the movements and techniques, as each action has a specific purpose and meaning.
At Preston Iaido Club, we are affiliated with Eikoku Roshukai, an organisation dedicated to teaching Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido. Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu translates to “Eishin's peerless, directly transmitted school” and is a Koryu or “Old School” with a rich history. The techniques taught in this style of Iaido have been passed down from teacher to pupil for centuries.
Training sessions take place every Wednesday from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Koryu Kyudokan Dojo in Wigan, and every Thursday from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM at Plungington Community Centre in Preston. Beginners are always welcome to join us and learn the art of Iaido. We provide maps and further details for those interested in attending.
Iaido is a martial art focused on the katana, commonly known as the “Samurai sword”. The training involves learning kata, which are set exercises that simulate combat situations. Unlike other martial arts, Iaido does not have any competitions. Instead, the focus is on self-improvement, discipline, and mindfulness.
The art of Iaido combines physical techniques with the philosophy and values of the samurai code of Bushido. It is a way to cultivate both mental and physical strength.
Please note that due to the use of weapons, including wooden swords, Roshukai only accepts membership from individuals who are 18 years of age or older. All registered members are covered for third-party liability, ensuring everyone's safety during training.
If you are interested in seeing what Iaido looks like in action, we have a gallery on our website with pictures of our training sessions. Our website also contains further information about Iaido, training schedules, and useful links.
At Preston Iaido Club, we strive to preserve the ancient art of Iaido and provide a space for individuals to learn and grow in their martial arts journey. Whether you are a beginner or have prior experience, we welcome you to join us in discovering the beauty and discipline of Iaido.
