Located in the heart of the Cte-Nord region, at the southwest edge of Labrador, Pourvoirie de la Haute Saint-Jean offers a high-end fishing experience on the stunning Rivire Saint-Jean, home to some of Quebec's most ferocious salmon. The river rises from the Laurentian Plateau at an altitude of approximately 500 meters, flowing through a mountainous landscape before emptying into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence near the charming village of Rivire-Saint-Jean. Situated 160 km east of Sept-les on the northern shore of the Saint Lawrence River, this region is a paradise for salmon fishing enthusiasts.
The Rivire Saint-Jean stretches over 240 km and boasts 3 exclusive fishing sectors with 55 generous fishing spots. Fishing for salmon is available from early June to mid-August, either by canoe or wading. Covering over 30 km of the Rivire Saint-Jean and 14 km of the Rivire des Saumons, anglers can expect to see up to 6000 salmon migrate up the river each season, weighing between 4 and 20 kilograms. With a catch limit of 1 large salmon per 4-day stay and 2 small salmon under 63 cm per day, up to a maximum of 3 per stay, anglers are also encouraged to practice catch-and-release as a member of the Fdration des Pourvoiries du Qubec.
To access the lodges, guests can take motorized canoes from the river mouth. The journey itself is an unforgettable experience, offering breathtaking landscapes along the way. Each lodge at Pourvoirie de la Haute Saint-Jean can accommodate up to 10 guests, providing quality lodging with double rooms and private bathrooms. The St-Jean Lodge is located 13 km from the river mouth, approximately a 1 hour and 15-minute canoe ride, while the Chutes Lodge is situated 30 km away, requiring about 2 hours and 30 minutes by canoe.
