Pinces Gardens Bowling Club in Exeter is a cracking place for bowling lovers! Celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 2023, thanks to the support from Hunters Estate Agents, the Co-Op on Alphington Rd, and Seven Stars Inn, it’s been around for a century and counting!
Known fondly as Pinces, the club organises matches through the season – mostly on weekends, with some midweek and evening games too. Team spirit shines through with everyone sporting club colour shirts, which you can grab from the club treasurer. Dress code is usually whites, unless stated otherwise.
The men’s team has a buzz-worthy spot in the Exeter & District League, kitted out in grey and competing with three rinks of triples. They also mix it up in the Over 60s league every Wednesday afternoon, sticking to the grey attire.
For all match details or to put your name down, just give a shout to the Club Captain or check out the availability sheets in the Club House. Weekly roll-up days happen every Tuesday and Thursday morning – perfect for some practice and laughs.
Pinces Gardens loves staying connected with members, welcoming feedback and suggestions through their website or via email to webmaster@pincesgardensbc.
The club’s Annual General Meeting in November 2023 was a hit, discussing the past season, handling urgent matters, and electing new officers. Updates on team selections are shared on WhatsApp and the club’s website.
To keep the fun rolling in the off-season, a winter get-together is in the works. And at the end of the season, the club celebrated with a meal at the Royal Oak in Okehampton Road St Thomas. May’s open week invited newbies to try out bowls, with guidance and gear provided – just remember your flat-heeled shoes!
For more info, head to the club’s website or contact one of the officers. Pinces Gardens is all about creating a welcoming space for bowlers of all levels, with 41 registered playing members and 8 non-players in 2023.
