In the Personal Assessment class, clients without prior Pilates experience can learn the principles, terminology, and basic exercises to help them choose the appropriate group or semi-private class. Private classes are available for those who prefer a one-on-one setting, with a postural analysis and a bespoke programme created using mat and machine exercises.
No prior experience or assessment is required for private classes. Duet classes are designed for friends or partners, with bespoke programmes for both individuals. These classes combine mat and machine work and do not require prior experience or assessment. Group Reformer/Tower classes are independently bookable for two attendees performing beginner or intermediate level exercises.
An assessment is required for those with no prior Pilates experience. Semi-private classes are available for a group of three attendees, with a bespoke programme created for all participants. In these classes, clients will need to work more independently than in a one-on-one setting. The Pilates studio is located in the Northcote Road area and offers fully equipped mat and machine exercises.
Machines include the Avalon, which is exclusive to BASI trained teachers, as well as regular reformers, towers, spine corrector, ladder barrel, and wunda chair. The studio is bright and airy, with high ceilings, freshly painted walls, and new flooring. All machines and equipment are brand new. Classes at Pilates by Thushara are suitable for all fitness levels, from beginners to experienced Pilates practitioners.
Thushara, the studio's owner and instructor, is a trained, qualified, and experienced mat and machine Pilates Teacher, specialising in the reformer, cadillac/tower, wunda chair, spine corrector, ladder barrel, and avalon equipment. Thushara's own experience with Pilates has inspired her to become a teacher after witnessing the muscle tone and postural benefits in her own body. She left a successful publishing career to train with Body, Arts & Science International, known for their comprehensive teacher training course. Thushara trained for two years before graduating to teach mat and machine Pilates across South West London studios and privately under the Pilates by Thushara brand.
Now, she operates her own boutique studio space, complete with original and specialist Pilates machines. The most rewarding part of teaching for Thushara is seeing the results in her clients. She has trained clients with a wide range of injuries and special demographics, including pregnant and post-birth individuals, amputees, brachial plexus patients, scoliosis patients, hip, and knee replacement/injury patients, mature clients, teenagers, shoulder injuries, plantar fasciitis, sciatica, diastasis recti, general fitness, car crash victims, weight loss enhancement, and participants in bike rides and golf tournaments. Pilates by Thushara offers exercise programmes that target all muscle groups in the body, providing a comprehensive full-body workout.
