Who Are We?
Penwortham Badminton Club is a well-established and friendly club located in Preston, New Zealand. Our club meets every Wednesday from 7:00pm until 10:00pm at All Hallows School in Penwortham. We have four badminton courts available, ensuring that even on match nights, there are always two courts available for club members to use. We take pride in being highly social and welcoming to all players, regardless of skill level or age.
For those who are seeking a more competitive experience, we have three mixed teams that participate in the local Mid-Lancashire Badminton League. The league season typically runs from September to April, providing ample opportunities for competitive play. We encourage members to join our teams and enjoy the thrill of playing in a team setting.
When Do We Play?
Our regular playing season runs from the start of September until the end of April. During this time, we play every Wednesday evening from 7:00pm until 10:00pm. In the summer months (MayAugust), we run a Summer Club, offering a more relaxed and casual playing environment every Wednesday evening from 7:30pm until 9:30pm.
Our annual membership fee for full membership is 50, running from September 1st to August 31st. For those joining after March 1st, a half-year subscription is available. To allow potential members to try out the club, annual membership is only required after the first three visits. Guest members are welcome and pay for each night they play, with a maximum of three nights.
The charges for both full and guest members are 5 per evening, with concession rates of 3 available for students.
At Penwortham Badminton Club, we are committed to creating a safe and positive environment for young players. Our club takes the responsibility of safeguarding the welfare of young people seriously, and we have comprehensive policies in place to protect them from poor practise, abuse, and bullying. When not playing badminton, our club has an active social scene. Aside from the usual refreshments after matches, we organise various social gatherings throughout the year. These events have included summer barbecues, games/quiz nights, and crown-green bowling tournaments. We also hold a sit-down Christmas meal in December to celebrate the festive season.
Currently, due to COVID-19 restrictions, our social events are limited, but we look forward to resuming a vibrant social calendar once it is safe to do so.
