About

The Patumahoe Rugby Football Club, located in Patumahoe, a small rural town in the Franklin district of Auckland, holds a prominent place in New Zealand rugby history. Established in 1886, it is one of the oldest rugby clubs in the country and the first club to be established in the Counties Manukau region.

Throughout its 125-year history, the Patumahoe Rugby Club has remained true to its roots, embodying a strong sense of community and family-oriented values. The club celebrated its 125th year anniversary in 2011, showcasing the enduring spirit and pride that has defined the club over the years.

Patumahoe Rugby Club has not only produced many talented rugby players but has also achieved success, winning numerous Counties Manukau club championships. The club has served as a hub for social camaraderie and community spirit, offering a space for locals to come together and support their team.

The name “Patumahoe” itself holds historical significance. Legend has it that the town got its name when a local Maori chief, in an effort to protect a sacred Mahoe tree from being desecrated by British soldiers, ordered it to be struck or cut down (“patu” in Maori). The tree in question was located on what is now known as Membrey's Hill, across from the local hotel. The strength and spirit displayed by the community and the club align perfectly with this name.

The Patumahoe Rugby Football Club offers various teams for different age groups and genders, including senior, junior, and women's and girl's rugby. The club has a dedicated committee that oversees its operations, ensuring smooth functioning and organisation.

The club's committee members include Dave Fuller as the President, Brigette Fulton as the Treasurer, Paul Batters as the Junior Vice President and Co Club Captain, John Michie as the Senior Vice President and Coach Co-ordinator, Danny Hodson as the Delegate, Grant Brady-Leathem as the Co Club Captain, Karena Brady-Leathem as the Secretary, Kim Furniss as a Committee Member and Bar Manager, Noel Bowden as the Treasurer, Megan Healy as the Registrar, and Kurk Brady as a Junior committee member.

Located on Mauku Road in Pukekohe, the Patumahoe Rugby Football Club welcomes players of all skill levels and provides a supportive and inclusive environment for rugby enthusiasts. The club's dedication to preserving its rich history and fostering a sense of community is evident in its ongoing commitment to the sport and the people it serves.
