Hey Sporty Folk,
Just a quick note from our organiser, Sam. Sam’s buzzing to share some exciting fishing news happening right here in the UK.
Over at Patshull Park Fishery, the Great Lake is teeming with carp, tench, and bream, some hitting those impressive double figures. Anglers can cast off from the bank or hire punts, making it all the more fun. The punts are even tied to stanchions in the lake bed—how unique is that?
Our fishing lodge is a gem, stocked with tackle for sale and plenty of hot and cold snacks and drinks. So, no one’s going hungry or unequipped on Sam’s watch!
Nestled within the stunning Patshull Park Hotel, Golf and Country Club, the fishery sprawls across roughly 250 acres of land once part of the Patshull Hall estate—thank Capability Brown for the design. The Great Lake, dating back to 1768, claims the title as the largest stillwater in Shropshire. It’s a big hit with trout fishing fans and is stocked with rainbow and golden trout, along with local brown trout.
We’ve got some impressive names giving us thumbs up like Bob Church, Welsh International Shane Jones, and ACA competition star Rob Edmunds. They reckon the fish and staff are top-notch. Who’s going to argue with that?
Throughout the year, there are club competitions and Open Matches on the water, so everyone from newbies to pros can show off their skills. If fly-fishing’s caught your eye, we’ve got tuition packages complete with equipment hire, a boat, and even a fish. Perfect for beginners and coarse anglers fancying a go.
And for those thinking trout fishing ends too soon, fret not! From mid-October to February's end, there’s pike fishing. Patshull Park’s famous for its pikes, with Richard Bradley reeling in a stunning 32lb pike. It's also home to some legendary carp—Nick Carrington bagged a 30lb Common Carp here.
Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, Patshull Park Fishery's got something for you. Come, enjoy, and make some fantastic fishing memories!
Catch you by the lake,
Sam
