The Parkland Ukrainian Dancers Society, located in Spruce Grove, Alberta, is a vibrant and dynamic dance club dedicated to keeping the tradition of Ukrainian dance alive. With a history dating back 40 years, the club offers a rich cultural experience for dancers of all ages and backgrounds.
The club, originally known as the Stony Plain Ukrainian Dancers, formed the Parkland Ukrainian Dancers Society in 1983 to provide the youth of the community with the opportunity to explore and appreciate Ukrainian culture through dance, music, and traditional costumes. Today, the club features six diverse dance groups, catering to dancers as young as 3 years old to adults. No previous dance experience is necessary to join.
The dance season at Parkland Ukrainian Dancers Society runs from September to June, with classes held once a week ranging from 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the dancer's age. All groups are competitive and focus on learning and performing dances from various regions of Ukraine, including Poltava, Hutsul'schyna, Bukovyna, Zakarpattia, and Volyn.
The club hosts an annual year-end concert in June to showcase the talents and hard work of its dancers. Registration for the upcoming 2023/2024 dance season is currently open, and interested individuals can find more information on the club's website.
