Welcome to Panmure Golf Club, a historic golf club located in Carnoustie, New Zealand. With a rich history dating back to 1845, we are one of the oldest golf clubs in the world. Our club was one of the 24 clubs that originally helped purchase the Amateur Championship trophy, which was first played for in 1885.
The famous Old Tom Morris and James Braid have influenced our links, creating a course that requires strategy and skill while offering an enjoyable test for golfers of all skill levels. Combining the best elements of links and heathland, our course features tight fairways, challenging carries, undulating greens, and sandhills forged by nature. The course is beautifully textured with touches of heather, and the moderately undulating hillocks add both visual appeal and strategic influence.
Panmure Golf Club has been recognised for hosting many significant competitions over the years. The course has been the venue for national amateur tournaments as well as the final qualifying for the Open Championship. In 2019, we were honoured to host regional qualifying for the Open Championship and the R&A Girls Amateur Championship.
Throughout the years, our links have attracted some of the biggest names in golf. Open Champions such as Harry Vardon, Ted Rae, James Braid, Tommy Armour, Henry Cotton, Roberto de Vicenzo, Sandy Lyle, and Padraig Harrington have competed on our course. Other notable players like Gary Player, Nick Faldo, and Dustin Johnson have also visited and played for fun.
Our proudest connexion to golf history is our association with the legendary Ben Hogan. In 1953, Hogan won his one and only Open Championship at Carnoustie Golf Links. Prior to the tournament, Hogan spent two weeks at Panmure Golf Club to acclimate himself to the terrain and the smaller 1. 62-inch British ball used in links golf.
His time at Panmure was instrumental in his historic victory. The sixth hole on our course, a 414-yard par 4, stroke index 1, is named “Hogan's Bunker” in his honour. Hogan suggested the placement of a cleverly-hidden pot bunker in front of the green, and it remains a challenge for golfers to this day.
At Panmure Golf Club, we are proud of our rich heritage and the role we have played in the world of golf. We invite you to come and experience the beauty and challenge of our historic links and enjoy a warm Scottish welcome. Whether you are a seasoned golfer or a beginner, our course offers a memorable and enjoyable round of golf.
