The Pakuranga Athletic Club Lloyd Elsmore is a well-established athletics club located in Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga, Auckland, New Zealand. The clubrooms are conveniently accessed from Cascades Road. With a history dating back to 1967, the Pakuranga Athletic Club has produced numerous successful athletes who have excelled at local, national, and international levels.
The club's foundation is built on active participation and a strong sense of community among its members of all ages. Athletes of all ability levels are welcomed and encouraged to join. The club provides a supportive and inclusive environment for athletes to develop their skills, pursue their athletic goals, and enjoy the sport of athletics.
The Pakuranga Athletic Club originally had its beginnings in 1910 but disbanded around 1914. It took another 53 years for the club to be re-established. Since then, it has become an integral part of the local athletic community. The club relocated to its current home in Lloyd Elsmore Park in 1980, one year before the park was officially opened in 1981.
The opening of Lloyd Elsmore Park was a momentous occasion, attended by esteemed guests such as the Prime Minister, Rob Muldoon, and HRH Prince Charles.
In 2017, the club celebrated its 50th Jubilee, highlighting its rich history and growth over the years. From its humble beginnings with children's athletic meets at Ti Rakau Park in 1967, to its current presence at Lloyd Elsmore Park, the club has evolved and flourished.
The Pakuranga Athletic Club has also organised notable events throughout its history. In honour of Sir Barry Curtis, the Mayor of Manukau City and the club's Patron, the club introduced the Sir Barry Curtis 10K Classic in 1996. Prior to that, the club had run the Pakuranga Half Marathon for 17 years. The club has adapted to changing preferences in running events, offering a 10K race instead of the Half Marathon.
The club takes pride in its policies and procedures, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of its activities. The club Constitution, as well as its Policies and Guidelines, are in place to govern the club's operations. Changes to these policies and guidelines require the majority approval of 2/3 of the members attending the Management Meeting.
