The club is dedicated to preserving and practising traditional European sword and staff fighting techniques.
Founded by a passionate martial artist, Joachim Meyer, Oxford Sword and Staff strives to uphold the rich history and artistry of European martial arts. Inspired by Joachim Meyer's quote, “Fencing with the longsword is not just the source and origin of all other forms of fencing but, as experience shows and as is obvious, also the most artful and manly next to other weapons,” the club's training focuses primarily on longsword techniques.
The club offers a welcoming and inclusive environment for people of all ages and skill levels. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced martial artist, Oxford Sword and Staff provides a supportive community where members can learn, grow, and develop their skills.
Training sessions are held every Tuesday from 19:30 to 21:30 at the Swan School Sports Hall, located on Raymund Rd, Marston Ferry Rd, Oxford. The spacious and well-equipped sports hall provides an ideal setting for martial arts training, ensuring the safety and comfort of all participants.
To foster a sense of camaraderie and friendship among members, Oxford Sword and Staff also organises regular social events and gatherings outside of training sessions. These events offer opportunities to bond with fellow practitioners, share knowledge, and showcase their skills in a friendly and supportive environment.
Prospective members are encouraged to attend their first session for free to experience the club's training firsthand. Joining Oxford Sword and Staff not only provides access to top-notch martial arts instruction but also the chance to be part of a thriving community passionate about HEMA.
