Oxford BSAC Scuba Diving Club is the award-winning Oxford Branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), founded in 1956 and one of the oldest diving clubs in the UK. The club is entirely run by volunteers and offers training for diving and snorkelling, as well as welcoming qualified divers from any training background. They organise regular diving trips to Dorset and inland sites, as well as longer-range destinations such as the Red Sea, Gozo (Malta), Scapa Flow, Sound of Mull, Plymouth, and the Isles of Scilly.
The club has close relationships with other local BSAC branches, including the Oxford University Underwater Exploration Group (OUUEG), with whom they frequently collaborate. The club's activities revolve around the clubhouse, pool training, and diving. They have a wide range of equipment and a fantastic hard boat moored in Weymouth, making them a successful dive club that has been operating for over 60 years.
With around 70 members from the Oxford area, the club covers a good cross-section of Oxford society. Members range from young children who snorkel to senior citizens who dive or are social members. The club welcomes new members, regardless of their diving experience, and is eager to accommodate untrained novices, experienced divers, or instructors from any training background. The club prides itself on its friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere, making everyone feel welcome.
The club's clubhouse is located in the grounds of Hinksey Park, just off the Abingdon Road in Oxford. Situated near Lake Street, the clubhouse is easily accessible as you head towards Oxford city centre. The club's dedicated premises within the park provide a convenient and welcoming space for training, socialising, and organising diving activities.
In summary, Oxford BSAC Scuba Diving Club is a well-established and reputable diving club in Oxford, offering training, diving trips, and a welcoming community for divers of all experience levels. With a long history and experienced members, the club is committed to promoting safe and enjoyable diving experiences in a friendly and supportive environment.
