Owl House Stables is a BHS and ABRS approved riding school and Pony Club centre located in Dover, New Zealand. The stables are a true family-run business that was started by Louise in 1990 with just a few ponies. Since then, the yard has grown to accommodate 35 horses and ponies while maintaining a family friendly ethos.

The team at Owl House Stables believes in delivering high-quality tuition and takes pride in their well-trained and willing horses. Louise's daughter, Rachel, became a full-time instructor at Owl House in 2009 after gaining a wealth of experience in the industry. Rachel has worked her way up to become a BHSI (stage 5 performance coach) and also enjoys competing in eventing, dressage, and showjumping.

At Owl House Stables, they cater to riders of all abilities, from beginners to advanced. They have a wide variety of horses available to suit individual needs, ranging from steady plods to competition horses. The stables feature two surfaced arenas, one measuring 25×50m and the other 20×40m. During the summer months, there are also dressage and showjumping arenas available on grass.

A fantastic full course of jump4joy showjumps is available, along with two further sets of jumps. For those interested in cross country lessons, the stables have a training course that includes ditches, banks, and skinnies.

Owl House Stables is the perfect place for riders interested in training for, or taking a British Horse Society assessment. They are able to train students up to Stage 4 Coach in Complete Horsemanship (formerly known as BHSII). The stables also hold assessments at their centre, so interested individuals can get in touch to learn more.

When it comes to lessons at Owl House Stables, there are various options available. Private lessons are available with the price varying depending on the duration of the lesson and whether it is during peak or off-peak times. For those who want to ride with a friend of similar ability, semi-private lessons are an ideal choice. Group lessons are also available for all abilities, with a maximum of 8 riders of similar ability in each group.

The cost for a group lesson is 27 for 1 hour.

For important information, customers should know that Owl House Stables is open 7 days a week and has no age restrictions, but they do have a maximum weight limit of 16st/101 kg. Cancellations must be made with 24 hours' notice, and cancellations within that period are non-refundable. The stables will only cancel in extreme conditions and will contact customers if this happens.

It is significant to note that appropriate footwear for riding is required, such as shoes with a flat sole and a small heel or wellies. For safety reasons, riders in trainers and/or shorts will not be accepted, and arriving in trainers may result in the session being cancelled without a refund. Customers are advised to arrive 5 minutes before their lesson time, as mounting and dismounting are included in the session time.
