Welcome to Overton Black Arrows Archery Club! Founded in 1962, our club aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for archers of all levels of experience. As an affiliated member of Archery GB, Southern Counties Archery Society (SCAS), and the Hampshire Archery Association (HAA), we offer a range of opportunities for beginner tuition, recreational archery, and competition coaching.
At Overton Black Arrows, we believe in the importance of proper technique and safety when it comes to archery. While it's possible to teach yourself, we strongly recommend taking part in our beginners course. This course, which is periodically offered, covers the fundamentals of archery and ensures that you develop the correct shooting technique. We provide lightweight bows with a draw weight of 16-18lb, which allows beginners to learn with ease.
Once you've mastered the basics, you can gradually increase your bow weight and even explore different bow styles.
Our club primarily uses recurve bows, as they have interchangeable limbs, but we also cater to archers interested in Compound, Longbow, Barebow, and Horsebow shooting styles. Novices are welcome to use club equipment until they are ready to purchase their own. We believe in offering a supportive and nurturing atmosphere for archers to thrive and improve their skills.
Overton Black Arrows has an outdoor range located in Laverstoke, situated between Overton and Whitchurch. This range meets the requirements for official archery ranges, with a minimum length of 100m and a sizeable safety area on either side of the target. In addition, we have an 18-metre indoor range in Whitchurch that is available for shooting during the winter months. We also have a Field Archery course in Kingsclere, where members can enjoy shooting in a natural setting.
Our shooting times are as follows: Wednesday and Friday from 6:00pm until dusk at the Laverstoke range during the summer (outdoors), and Wednesday from 7:00pm to 9:30pm at the Testbourne School Sports Hall in Whitchurch during the winter (indoors). Shooting at The Warren field archery course in Kingsclere is arranged by appointment. Members also have the flexibility to shoot at the Laverstoke range on their own, as long as they adhere to the range rules.
