The Otago Ski Club was formed in 1932 after heavy snowfall in Dunedin, New Zealand. Initially, the club established a base in the Rock and Pillar Range near Middlemarch. Over time, a mud-floor hut and a 72-bed lodge were built. The club eventually shifted operations to Coronet Peak near Queenstown.
The club's membership, originally limited to the Otago Land District residents, is now open to all. The club is administered by a committee elected at an Annual General Meeting, with subscriptions covering fixed costs and usage fees covering running costs.
