Orford Sailing Club, located in the beautiful village of Orford in Woodbridge, is a friendly open club that welcomes sailors of all abilities. With a membership of about 500, the club offers a range of facilities and an active dinghy and cruiser sailing programme.
The club boasts a purpose-built Clubhouse, which includes a clubroom with a kitchen, changing rooms, showers, and a race officers' bridge. The dinghy park is conveniently situated by the river, with a concrete ramp providing access at all states of the tide. There is also a pontoon that dries out at low water. For storage needs, locked facilities are available for oars, outboard motors, and petrol.
Additionally, there is a covered shed on the quay for supplementary storage of yacht tenders, though it is prone to flooding.
While the club does not have its own moorings, interested individuals can apply for moorings through the New Orford Town Trust. Orford Sailing Club is family-oriented and prides itself on being a friendly, informal organisation. Most of the club's operations are carried out by its members, who volunteer their time for various tasks such as maintenance, race administration, rescue boat operation, and catering for race day teas and club parties.
Safety and seamanship are given great importance at Orford Sailing Club, and the club is a certified RYA Training Centre. Regular dinghy and powerboat courses are offered, providing opportunities for members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
For those interested in joining the club, there are over 270 subscribing members, totalling around 580 people.
