Welcome to the official website of Openshaw Shukokai Karate Club, located in East Manchester Leisure Centre. As a proud member of the Yamada-ha Shito-ryu Shukokai Karate-do Union (UK), this karate club offers a remarkable training experience to individuals of all ages and skill levels.
At the helm of this esteemed karate club is Chief Instructor Steve Buckley, a highly skilled and experienced practitioner holding a 4th Dan black belt. Steve's commitment to excellence is reflected in his teachings, ensuring that each student receives the utmost guidance and support on their martial arts journey. As Denis Casey Sensei wisely said, “If you leave the main stream, your river of knowledge will dry up.
The club has a rich history steeped in the traditional teachings of Shukokai Karate. In May 2019, Steve Buckley and Steve Brereton were honoured with their Yondan and Nidan grades, respectively, by the YSSKU UK Grading Panel. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and skill of the instructors and students of Openshaw Shukokai Karate Club.
